About

The Singapore Silent Heroes (SSH) Student Award is proud to announce the commencement of its 2025 nomination cycle, continuing its mission to honor young individuals who exemplify exceptional compassion and selflessness within their communities.

Building upon the success of previous years, the 2025 award seeks to recognize students whose altruistic actions have made a significant impact on society.

Celebrating Compassion: SSH Student Award winners honored on 27 July 2024 at Toa Payoh HDB Hub Auditorium for their impactful contributions to the community.

Since its inception in 2023, the SSH Student Award has celebrated the remarkable contributions of young Singaporeans. In 2024, the initiative expanded its reach, engaging more schools and institutions while introducing the prestigious APEX Awards—a next-tier recognition honoring five outstanding students for their commendable achievements. These distinguished recipients were celebrated during the Singapore Silent Heroes 2024 Awards Ceremony on 7 September at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.

The 2025 award aims to further this legacy by encouraging schools across Singapore to nominate students who have demonstrated sustained acts of kindness and community service. Nominations are open to students who have engaged in initiatives for a period exceeding six months, reflecting a commitment to long-term positive change.

Educators and peers are invited to submit nominations, acknowledging that each act of kindness, no matter how small, plays a crucial role in shaping a compassionate society. The award comprises a trophy and a certificate, symbolizing the community’s gratitude for the students’ contributions. Awardees will be honored at the annual Silent Heroes Student Award ceremony, celebrating their dedication to humanity.

FAQs

Can I nominate a teacher or teaching staff in the school?

The Silent Heroes Student Award is open only to students. If you have a teacher, or teaching staff in the school who is worthy of recognition, you may wish to consider nominating them for the national-level Silent Heroes award.

My prospective nominee previously received an award from a third party organization for her contributions. Can I still nominate her?

As it is our hope that people who have not been recognized before are those celebrated with these awards, such individuals would not generally be considered for the awards.

Is it a requirement for me to discuss a prospective nomination with the potential nominee?

No, it is not. However, please note that the award would only be given to them (if selected) if they consent to being awarded.

I had asked a student who I thought was a deserving nominee for the award whether he minded me nominating him and he indicated that he did not wish to do so.

While you are free to try and persuade the student in question to agree to be nominated, if he/she insists that they would rather not be nominated, we would ask you respect their wishes.

Can I nominate a student from another school?

No, unless the other school in question is also considering nominations for the Silent Heroes Student Award. If so, you may do so.

Is there an interview in the selection process?

As this may differ from school to school, you may wish to check in with your school’s administrator of the Silent Heroes Student Award on this.

Can a student be nominated for a one-off act of kindness or philanthropy?

No. As the awards seek to celebrate sustained acts / initiatives, only contributions that have exceeded six months will be considered.

What does the award comprise of?

The award comes in the form of a medal and a certificate. There is no cash component to the award.

Is there an award giving ceremony?

Yes, awardees are invited to the annual Singapore Silent Heroes Student Award ceremony.

Can I nominate someone who had been nominated before?

Yes you may, assuming they did not win the award previously and did not receive any publicity for it.

Am I allowed to nominate more than one individual?

Yes, each school can nominate up to 3 nominations.

I have some further questions about the award, who can I direct the questions to?

You may wish to speak to the administrator of the awards in your school.
