Aminur Rasyid Mohamed Anwar
Inspiring Youth Category Winner – 2019
Nominated by: –
During his schooling days, Mr. Aminur Rasyid Mohamed Anwar struggled to do well academically. However, he was given the opportunity to learn and grow from his mentor, who instilled confidence in him. Today he is showing his gratitude by helping the disadvantaged and the underserved communities get a leg up.
A co-founder of Junior Art Lab, Aminur won the Singapore International Foundation’s Young Social Entrepreneurs 2018 programme. Junior Art Lab imparts digital literacy skills to disadvantaged and vulnerable young children, preparing them for the SMART Nation. Lessons and workshops are innovatively designed to be engaging and to cultivate their creative faculties, in art and design.
Beneficiaries include disadvantaged children and youths-at-risk from organisations such as Darul Ihsan Orphanage, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society, Ang Mo Kio Family Service and Student Centres, as well as People’s Association.
With support and funding from the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), Junior Art Lab managed to acquire touch-enabled computer devices from organisations such as CPAS, MINDS and APSN. These devices are greatly helping people with disabilities and special needs to learn.
Under Aminur’s leadership, Junior Art Lab has also initiated three community-led learning projects with the Lifelong Learning Council. Junior Art Lab’s outreach programmes and workshops have made an impact on over 2,000 children and youths to date.
Aminur has spent a lot of time training and grooming Junior Art Lab’s first Lab Artist, Muhd Sayfullah. Muhd Sayfullah suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Thanks to Aminur’s efforts, and with support from Club Rainbow Singapore, Muhd Sayfullah has produced digital artworks that are printed on merchandises such as greeting cards and tote bags, providing a source of income for Sayfullah and his family.
Aminur hopes to replicate the model used to help Sayfullah to others as well.
