Heart of Humanity Winner – 2025
Nominated by:

Chua N Ning Pei – Boss, Collaborator & Friend

Born with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, Humphries Warren Sheldon has spent his life battling a progressive condition that gradually weakened his muscles and nerves. For years, he pushed through — serving and leading teams in the ARMY & SCDF, swimming and training in martial arts. But as the disease advanced, so did the emotional toll. Between 2016 and 2020, Sheldon found himself spiraling—losing jobs, relationships, and nearly his will to live.
Yet from this dark valley emerged not defeat, but defiance.
After a near breaking point in 2020, a dying friend offered him a line that would redefine his life: “Don’t show the world your plight—show them your might.” From that moment on, Sheldon chose to live not just for himself, but for others walking similar paths.
Even when he was rushed to hospital in 2024 with a life-threatening infection—one that led to the amputation of his right leg—he insisted on attending the Singapore Silent Heroes Awards, just to support fellow nominees. Hours later, he underwent emergency surgery. His words? “At
least I showed the world my might, not my plight.”
Despite his disability, Sheldon dedicates himself daily to supporting fellow Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) or as he prefers to call them, Persons with Determination. Whether para-counselling caregivers & fellow PWDs, advocating for more inclusive employment, or simply lending a listening ear late into the night, Sheldon is there not because he has to, but because he knows what it means to feel alone.
He believes that empathy is strength, and that those with lived experience are best placed to lift others. His presence is a source of encouragement not only to beneficiaries, but also to institutions and policymakers he collaborates with.
What makes Sheldon remarkable is not just that he continues to serve while facing chronic pain 24/7, financial strain, and life-changing surgery but that he does so with humility, humour, and heart. He never seeks attention, only connection. His advocacy, outreach, and quiet heroism have impacted countless lives, proving that even in brokenness, there can be light.
Sheldon reminds us that strength is not the absence of struggle, but the refusal to give up on others and on yourself.
