SINGAPORE – Nominations are now open for the Singapore Silent Heroes (SSH) Awards 2025, which recognises everyday individuals who have made a meaningful difference without seeking the spotlight.
The awards, organised by non-profit organisation Civilians Association (Singapore), are aimed at being a platform to inspire others to do good, while also empowering recipients to continue making a difference.
The public is encouraged to nominate those seen as “everyday heroes, who remind us that empathy, kindness and resilience are the foundations of a strong and compassionate nation”.
Launched in 2014, the awards will honour individuals in five categories in 2025:
Heart of Humanity
Individuals with disabilities who demonstrate extraordinary compassion and service
Outstanding Adult
Adults who have made significant contributions to their communities through consistent volunteerism
Inspiring Youth
Young individuals whose actions inspire and uplift their peers and community
Pioneer of Promise
Visionaries who have started meaningful social or community projects
Compassionate Foreigner
Non-Singaporeans who have shown exceptional care and commitment to communities in Singapore
Nominations are open until June 15, and the award ceremony will take place at Shangri-La Hotel on Sept 27.
Members of the public are invited to submit their nominations at https://sgsilentheroes.com/online-nomination
Past winners include Mr Abdul Karim, a senior construction supervisor who has been working here since 2014 and was conferred the Compassionate Foreigner Award in 2024.
Mr Abdul, better known as Sojib, runs a popular Facebook page where he shares essential local information and relevant resources for fellow migrant workers in Singapore.
Nominations for the Singapore Silent Heroes award, which is in its 12th edition, are open from Feb 24 to June 15. Individuals can submit their nominations at sgsilentheroes.com/news/2025-nomination-details-category-faq/
The award ceremony will be held on Sept 27.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, he offered guidance, mental health support and reliable information to many.
In 2024, he coordinated the Gaza Relief Project, which brought together more than 700 volunteers and raised over $81,500 for humanitarian aid.
Another past recipient is Ms Priscilla Ong, who was awarded the Heart of Humanity Award in 2021.
After an accident limited her mobility, she began Project Love Lunch in 2014, delivering groceries, hot meals and festive care packs to low-income families.
Today, the initiative supports close to 200 families monthly and engages more than 10 corporate social responsibility and school volunteer teams.
Reflecting then on the awards’ 10th anniversary milestone in 2023, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, patron of the SSH, said: “The heart-warming stories of everyday Singaporeans going the extra mile – quietly, but tirelessly – to help their neighbours or others in the midst of their daily lives have truly been motivating.
“This is the essence of the Singapore spirit – we look out for one another, we help ensure that every individual and family can recover from setbacks or overcome disadvantage, and we keep striving to improve the lives of everyone in our shared home of Singapore.”
