Dipti Julka – 2020 SG Silent Hero

Dipti was a volunteer at Cause Corps Singapore snce 2016 and became the co-lead of this volunteering group, together with Sherry Soon (nominator). They had 2-3 volunteering activities every month, including drawing mental wellness coloring sheets, knitting baby beanies and visiting the elderly at Lee Ah Mooi Nursing Home.

When Sherry formed her groundup movement, Be Kind SG, Dipti immediately volunteered to step up to be a core team member. She helps to run #CraftforGood sessions once monthly, where volunteers gather to draw mental wellness coloring sheets for the residents of the welfare homes. and has now even started a Social Distancing edition, where volunteers draw at home, she does the checking and sends them to both Moral Welfare Home and THK Home for Disabled @ Sembawang.

Dipti has been a very regular volunteer at all of Be Kind SG activities it started in mid-2017, such as engaging and visiting residents of both Moral Welfare Home and THK Home for Disabled @ Sembawang once monthly and bringing the residents for outings. She has also been involved as a volunteer in Be Kind SG’s collaborations with National Kidney Foundation, Singapore Prison Service and others. Dipti also regularly volunteers at BE Kind SG’s appreciation activities, such as appreciation of nurses at Institute of Mental Health, appreciation of foreign healthcare staff at Moral Welfare Home and THK Home for Disabled @ Sembawang.

Since coming to Singapore in 2016, Dipti has been volunteering. As a foreigner and not knowing anyone here, she went beyond her comfort zone to volunteer at various groups and organizations – doing these acts quietly and rooted in her belief of giving back. The various beneficiaries have benefited from Dipti’s acts of kindness in showing care and concern for them. Despite the language barrier, she is able to communicate effectively via smiles and gestures. This has also inspired other volunteers to follow in her footsteps.
