2026 Singapore Silent Heroes Winner: Richard Siow Kiang Wee (Uncle Richard) – Pioneer of Promise

At 72 years old, Mr. Richard Wee—affectionately known as Uncle Richard—has dedicated
over 16 years to volunteering at the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF). After retiring in
2009 with zero prior volunteering experience, he began conducting Funfit sessions twice a
week at CCF’s Place of Academic Learning and Support (PALS).

Through thoughtfully designed fitness activities, he helps children recovering from cancer rebuild their strength, balance, coordination, and motor skills. His playful sessions provide a safe environment where children can rediscover joy, confidence, and the freedom to simply be children again.

Over the past 16 years, Uncle Richard has contributed more than 1,000 volunteer sessions,
touching the lives of countless children and families. His enthusiasm has inspired others to
step forward, including his friend Uncle Chan, whom he encouraged to volunteer alongside
him at PALS. In recognition of his unwavering service, he was awarded the Platinum Award
at CCF’s Caring Hearts 2026, building upon his 2018 Healthcare Humanity Awards
recognition.

Moved by the resilience of young cancer patients and their caregivers during his very first
session, Uncle Richard chose to journey alongside them long-term. Beyond CCF, he actively
advocates for the cause at public platforms like Hair for Hope and the CCF Community
Walk. Through his quiet consistency and joyful spirit, he remains a pillar of strength and
encouragement to the entire community.
