2026 Singapore Silent Heroes Winner: Saifuddin Arif Bin Zainal – Inspiring Youth

At 28 years old, Saifuddin Arif has spent nearly a decade demonstrating exceptional
commitment to empowering seniors and youths, beginning his journey with Youth Corps
Singapore in August 2015. As a pioneer member of YOLDEN @ Moral Home, he has
participated in 15 programme runs, progressing from a volunteer befriender to an
Executive Committee member.

Despite language barriers, he has established himself as a comforting presence to nursing home residents through non-verbal cues and basic Mandarin. He co-developed “Bubble Time” for volunteer bonding and reflection, and spearheaded “YOLDEN Switch 2.0” over Zoom to ensure uninterrupted support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saifuddin’s extensive community service also includes wildlife rescue with ACRES since
2022, mentoring children of incarcerated parents with New Life Stories since 2023, and
serving as a Patrol Officer with the Volunteer Special Constabulary since 2024. His
dedication to social impact has naturally translated into his professional life; today, he
works at Boys Town as a Youth Specialist. In recognition of his service, he received the
Singapore Total Defence Award in October 2024.

Describing himself as a socially awkward teenager when he first started volunteering,
Saifuddin found his footing through YOLDEN and made it his mission to create those same
supportive conditions for others. His sustained dedication reflects an intrinsic motivation
to show up for his community and pay forward the support he once received.
