Civilians Association raises funds to buy food and daily necessities to benefit more than 150 single-parent families – Lianhe Zaobao

生活原就捉襟见肘的单亲家庭遇上冠病疫情更是雪上加霜，本地民间组织举办筹款活动为超过150户有需要家庭购置食物和日用品，获社会善心人士慷慨解囊。

配合创会56周年，新加坡民众协会（Civilians Association of Singapore）自6月起在网上筹款平台Giving.sg举办筹款活动，希望为156户单亲家庭提供价值150元的食物和日用品。

即将在本月底结束的筹款活动提早达标，截至昨天已筹得超过2万3450元。协会将按原定计划继续筹款，并用多余善款添购日用品，赠送给更多有需要的家庭。

协会昨天在达曼裕廊民众俱乐部包装和分派首批物资给101户家庭，其余受益家庭预计于本月底收到日用品。

国务资政兼社会政策统筹部长尚达曼受邀出席活动，他也是负责达曼裕廊事务的裕廊集选区议员。

协会主席塞尔文（64岁）受访时指出，一些协会成员来自单亲家庭，能切身体会疫情对有需要家庭的影响。

每户受益家庭获赠10公斤白米、五公升食用油、快熟面、炼乳和洗衣液等日用品，以及价值40元的超市购物礼券。

住在一房式租赁组屋的努尔胡迈扎（Nur Humaiza，28岁）是其中一名受益人，独立抚养七岁儿子的她从网上得知筹款活动后，主动联系协会。

她透露，刚上小学的儿子患有湿疹、哮喘和支气管炎。此外，由于儿子颈部淋巴结肿大需要饮用医生指定的奶粉，她每月单是买奶粉就要花160多元。身为孩子的全职看护者，她无法外出工作，每个月依靠750元政府援助金度日。她每个星期有几天会到姐姐家中帮忙带孩子，母亲也会不时接济她。

努尔胡迈札透露，孩子的父亲三个月前曾上门探访，没想到几天后就确诊患上冠病，她与孩子履行居家通知期间生活差点陷入窘境，所幸有慈善组织送来即食餐点，三餐才有着落。

她对协会赠送食物和日用品表示感激，并指这些物资至少够用一个月。

Single-parent families who were struggling to live in the first place were even more troubled by the coronavirus. Local non-governmental organization organised fund-raising activities to purchase food and daily necessities for more than 150 needy families, which were generously donated by well-meaning people in society.

To coincide with the 56th anniversary of the foundation, the Civilians Association of Singapore (Civilians Association of Singapore) has organized fundraising activities on the online fundraising platform Giving.sg since June, hoping to provide 156 single-parent families with food and daily necessities worth 150 yuan.

The fund-raising activity, which will end at the end of this month, reached the target earlier. As of yesterday, more than 23,450 yuan has been raised. The association will continue to raise funds according to the original plan, and use the excess funds to purchase daily necessities, which will be given to more families in need.

The association packed and distributed the first batch of supplies to 101 households at the Dammam Jurong Community Club yesterday. The remaining beneficiary households are expected to receive daily necessities by the end of this month.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister of State Coordinator and Social Policy Coordination, was invited to attend the event. He is also a member of the Jurong GRC who is responsible for the affairs of Dammam Jurong.

Mr M.P. Sellvem, chairman of the association, pointed out in an interview that some members of the association come from single-parent families and can experience the impact of the epidemic on families in need.

Each beneficiary family received daily necessities such as 10 kilograms of white rice, five liters of cooking oil, instant noodles, condensed milk and laundry detergent, and a supermarket shopping coupon worth 40 yuan.

Nur Humaiza (28 years old) who lives in a one-room rental flat is one of the beneficiaries. After raising her seven-year-old son independently, she took the initiative to contact the association after learning about the fundraising activities online.

She revealed that her son who had just started elementary school suffered from eczema, asthma and bronchitis. In addition, because her son’s neck lymph nodes swelled and needed to drink milk powder specified by the doctor, she would spend more than 160 yuan a month on milk powder alone. As a full-time caregiver for her children, she cannot go out to work and relies on government assistance of 750 yuan a month. She would go to her sister’s house to help with the children several days a week, and her mother would also help her from time to time.

Nur Humaiza revealed that the child’s father visited his home three months ago, but he did not expect to be diagnosed with coronary disease a few days later. She and the child almost fell into a dilemma while fulfilling the home notification. Fortunately, a charity organization delivered instant meals. Point, three meals a day.

She expressed gratitude to the association for donating food and daily necessities, and said that these materials are sufficient for at least one month.
