Whether it’s a friend, neighbour or family member, many people in Singapore make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others – often without getting the recognition they deserve.
Now, the Hillview Civilians Sports Club has launched its second contest to find and salute these “Silent Heroes”.
It will give out awards to individuals who have contributed in the fields of sports, teaching, community activities, social causes, enterprise and volunteer work.
Each of the five categories has its own set of criteria, and the initiative aims to recognise outstanding Singaporeans or permanent residents regardless of their race, age, gender or physical ability.
The nominees will be judged by a panel, which includes Mr Christopher de Souza, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, and Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, former senior minister of state and current Ambassador to Kuwait.
Hillview Civilians Sports Club was set up in 1964 as a football club, but has evolved into a community-based group that works with youth, the elderly and the disabled.
Go to www.sgsilentheroes.com to make a nomination. Nominations close on July 31 and the awards will be presented on Aug 22 at the Shangri-la Hotel.
