Raymond has been an exceptional Caregiver to his late wife for 40 years and he was presented with 2 outstanding awards – Model Caregiver Award in 2007 by AWWA and Mental Health Champion by Silver Ribbon Singapore in 2010 during her battle with Schizophrenia & depression.

Even though he is partially disabled now with severe mobility issues that require brain surgery, Raymond continues to counsel the depressed both here in Singapore and overseas through the numerous books he authored.

He has also helped several budding writers produce their own books. Until today, at the age of 73 Raymond, being passionate about mental illness and elderly issues, speaks out on improving the lives of these two groups who are in dire need of support.

His articles and letters are also featured on the Straits Times, and he has also appeared on local TV programmes, such as Everyday Heroes on MediaCorp (Season 1, Episode 9: Unconditional Love)

Beneficiaries of Ray’s work include management, staff, and residents of the many organisations he’s been asked to speak at (e.g. Institute of Mental Health).

Many caregivers of family members with mental health conditions have also expressed gratitude to him for insights on caring for their loved ones.

Mr. Raymond Anthony Fernando was nominated for the “Pioneer of Promise” Category in the SSH 10th Year Awards Nite 2023. He was the selected winner and received award from Guest of Honour : Mr. Lawrence Wong – Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Financeat Shangri-La Hotel on 28th September 2023.
