Running several volunteering initiatives, passionately

Singapore Silent Hero strives to recognises ordinary, everyday Singaporeans and permanent residents for their extraordinary humanity and compassion towards people, causes, and missions. One such individual is Durga.

Durga, who is a 2014’s Silent Hero (Inspiring Youth category winner) has been volunteering with her family since she young together. She has always had a soft spot for children, hence it was no surprise that she pursed her Diploma in Early Childhood in 2018. However, as she hailed from a single parent family, finances were always a concern. Despite that, she still donated actively.

Apart from donations, Durga runs several volunteering initiatives. One such initiative is Henna for a Cause SG. Durga is passionate about Henna art, hence in 2012, she founded Henna for a Cause SG to provide henna services to charitable events. She has provided Henna services to Children’s Charities Association, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) amongst others.

KuttyDinosaurs is another initiative founded by Durga. KuttyDinosaurs which means “Small Dinosaurs” in Tamil was created as a platform for Durga to incorporate her three kids in her volunteering endeavours. She believes that volunteering is a great way to inculcate the values of compassion & kindness to her children. As part of KuttyDinosaurs, Durga has organised visits to Fire Stations & provided essential items such as milk formulas & diapers to needy families.

We need more Silent Heroes like Durga in the community to champion social causes. If you know someone who is doing good for the community reach out to us!
