Previous award categories have included such diverse issues as environmental awareness, enterprising youth, reformation of ex-convicts, and exemplary figures from our pioneer generation. In all categories, the keyword is ‘Silent’. One of the key criteria for each award is that all nominees are everyday individuals who do not possess celebrity status or significant prior recognition for similar past achievements.
Categories for 2015 nomination
Hearts of Humanity
Individuals and organisations helping others with disabilities, or individuals facing disabilities themselves and have not allowed their debilitations to get in the way of their goals. In achieving these goals, they have also inspired others to aspire towards greatness.
Exponents of Environment
Individuals and organisations who have worked to protect the environment by driving knowledge, awareness, involvement and action through education, fund-raising, petitions, government dialogues, and grass roots campaigns.
Pioneers of Promise
Special (individuals-only) category for Singapore’s pioneers who are using their skill-sets and experiences to raising awareness of social causes, promoting harmony within communities, helping youth aspire towards greater goals, and making good on the promise that no one is too old or too young to aspire.
Women of Will
Individuals and organisations who have demonstrably contributed towards improving society through advocacy for gender equality. Efforts range from raising awareness on workplace harassment and supporting single mothers, to inspiring women towards careers in traditionally male-dominated fields such as STEM, construction, and shipping.
Students of Spirit
Individuals and organisations who have set an example to others, and inspired their peers and groups through outstanding achievements in sports, academics, community initiatives, and peer progress. These achievements have been sustained and significant, and have either directly, or have indirectly but clearly benefitted others/

The club’s president, Mr. MP Sellvem said, “our mission, since our founding in 1964, has always been to improve the lives of Singapore by imbuing each and every citizen with the resilience of the kampong spirit, upon which our nation was built.”
While the Hillview Civilians Club creates, administers, and funds the entire event, judging is conducted by an independent panel assembled from outside the club.
